Therapy for individuals, couples, and families
Help with anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral concerns, and life transitions, in person in ʻAiea or by secure telehealth.
What we help with
- Anxiety and depression
- ADHD
- Behavioral disorders in children and adolescents
- Addictive behaviors
- Life transitions and adjustment, from a new school to a new stage of life
- Parenting challenges, through parent training
How we work
No single method fits everyone. Our clinicians draw on humanistic, cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, interpersonal, family, and group approaches, and fit the work to you.
Whatever the approach, it rests on respect for you as an individual and on building a strong, trusting relationship with your therapist. That relationship is the foundation of everything else.
Groups
- Kūpuna group. A seniors group with Dr. Umphress to share and talk through the challenges facing kūpuna.
- Parents of children with ADHD. A 10-week weekly group for parents of children ages 6 to 12 diagnosed with ADHD.
Couples counseling
Sessions focus on your relationship's unique needs. Please note that most insurance plans don't cover couples counseling.
Sessions
Therapy sessions usually last 45 minutes to an hour. Many of our appointments happen by telehealth over HIPAA-compliant video. You'll need a private space with audio and video. Play therapy for younger children happens in person at our office.
When a minor has an appointment at our office, at least one responsible adult needs to stay on site.
When to reach out
If you feel alone or isolated, or stuck in negative thinking, talking with someone can put you on the path to feeling better. If you're hoping to include medication in your care, you'll also need to see a psychiatrist. Our psychologists don't prescribe.
